Helena Petrovna Blavatsky

Helena Petrovna Blavatsky was a theosophist and in 1875 Blavatsky, together with Colonel H. S. Olcott, established the Theosophical Society. She also established close relations with Freemasonry, receiving the Certificate of the 'Rite Of Adoption' from Mason John Yarker in 1877. The main purpose of the Society was “to form a nucleus of the Universal Brotherhood of Humanity and she is most well known for her promulgation of a theosophical system of thought, often referred to under various names, including: The Occult Science,

The Esoteric Tradition, The Wisdom of the Ages

or simply as Occultism or Theosophy. Blavatsky discussed the major themes of Theosophy in several works, including The Secret Doctrine, Isis Unveiled, The Key to Theosophy, and The Voice of the Silence. Helena P. Blavatsky was widely regarded as the high priestess of the modern New Age Movement and it is based to a considerable extent on the Theosophical tenets and ideas presented by Blavatsky and her contemporaries.

"No Single Organization or Movement

has contributed so many components to the New Age Movement as the Theosophical Society. It has been the major force in the dissemination of occult literature in the West in the twentieth century." Other organizations loosely based on Theosophical texts and doctrines include the Agni Yoga, and a group of religions based on Theosophy called the Ascended Master Teachings: the "I AM" Activity, The Bridge to Freedom and The Summit Lighthouse, which evolved into the Church Universal and Triumphant.

Blavatsky's Theosophy taught arcane "knowledge" (Gnosis) the universal brotherhood of mankind, and unity among all religions, except the monotheistic religions, Christianity, Islam, and Judaism , which she insisted could not be reconciled with what she termed "individual enlightenment." Blavatsky damned Yahweh as a "capricious and unjust."

She insisted that the Holy Scriptures were wrong, it was really Lucifer who was the 'Good and Just God', victimized by the harsh and unjust Yahweh. Blavatsky maintained that the name Satan, belonged by right to the first and cruelest "Adversary" of all other Gods, and not to the serpent which spoke only words of sympathy and wisdom. She somehow reasoned that Satan/Lucifer is GOD the creator, the Savior, the Father; and that Jesus is "the first born brother of Satan."

She wrote, "Satan, the Serpent of Genesis, is the real creator and benefactor, the Father of Spiritual mankind. For it is he who opened the eyes of Adam created by Yahweh, as alleged an adversary to him - he still remains in Esoteric Truth the ever loving messenger who conferred on us spiritual instead of physical immortality."

She claimed to have had experience with astral projection and the ability to communicate with the spirit world. Her books, 'Isis Unveiled' and her three-volume, 'The Secret Doctrine' were supposedly channeled through her by the "Masters of Wisdom," Tibetan 'holy men'. In her book, 'The Secret Doctrine' Blavatsky wrote, "Lucifer represents life, thought, progress, civilization, liberty, independence.

Lucifer is the Logos, the Serpent, the Saviour

and "It is Lucifer who is the God of our planet and the only God", and she continues, "The celestial Virgin which thus becomes the Mother of Gods and Devils at one and the same time, for she is the ever loving beneficent deity, but in antiquity and reality, Lucifer or Luciferius is the name. Lucifer is the divine and terrestrial light, the Holy Ghost and Satan at one and the same time".

When Blavatsky died in 1891, Annie Besant, a militant feminist, co mason, and a member of the Fabian Socialist Society of England took over the reigns of leadership. After Besant, came Alice Bailey and her husband, Foster Bailey, a 32nd Degree Freemason. Having assumed the leadership of the Theosophical Society together, they formulated and built the foundations of what we now refer to as the New Age Movement.
